A brand new European initiative has started. It is called STAR.APP and it is funded by Erasmus + KA2 funding.
The project started in September 2020 and brings together 5 universities and 1 technical partner to explore the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) to support students’ academic performance. Experts in educational sciences will work with AI experts to create a new system to preventively detect academic students at risk of dropping out and to preventively intervene with personalised support.
The project represents a new challenge to explore the frontiers of “AI for good” and to create intelligent tutoring systems in European universities.
Everything starts from the idea that we should start early and not wait for dropouts to happen. This new collaborative and multidisciplinary effort will build bridges to make career and tutoring interventions more effective.
The project foresees the creation of three main outputs:
an online platform for risk assessment where AI technologies help the early detection of students at risk.
a toolkit for tutors and practitioners with a set of innovative units of activities to help tutors and practitioners deliver tutoring services.
a handbook called “New frontiers for preventing academic drop-out” where a framework for approaching the use of machine learning in the tutoring services will be presented.
The news section of the website and the newsletter will keep you updated on the project progress!
